Trick Shots For the Freshman Class
The
first trick shot most people learn is what I refer to as the "chess
knight" shot. In chess, the knight moves 2 in any direction, then
1 to the side. Even with the knights in the way, the scout shown above
can hit the cleric.
Now
we'll look at the same shot as before, but this time at a farther
distance. Now the scout is 2 chess knight moves away from the cleric.
The cleric looks safe and secure behind the knights, but looks can be
deceiving. Once again, the scout pictured above CAN hit the cleric due
to the chess knight angle
Just
as you can block straight and diagonal scout shots, the "chess knight"
shot is also blockable. With the knight 1 chess knight move away from
both the cleric and the scout, the "chess knight" shot is blocked. This
time, the scout shown above can NOT hit the cleric.
Almost done with your First Year studies
When
you are not sure if you have an open shot, you can use the "noob tool"
built into the game to help you. The details shown above are visible in
the top left of your game window when you have selected the cleric as
the target from the scout in the above shot. In this case it says 0%
which means you have a 0% chance to hit the cleric.
You'll also
notice this when aiming at other units, and it will tell you things
like 80%, 60%, 20% etc... This is the percent chance you have TO HIT,
not the percent chance the unit has to block. Don't get them confused
or you may end up hitting your own unit.
Last Subject for the Freshman class
This
trick shot was made public by Seed on the TAO forums. In this case, the
scout CAN hit the cleric if you aim at the open square next to it,
shown here in red. The cleric, in a sense, "blocks" the scout from
hitting the open square to the side of it. I once used this trick shot
on an enemy scout,
and when he attempted to shoot my scout the next turn he hit his own knight in the back of the head.

around here there is a link to page 2. Page 2 has the really cool
trick shots.
